I’m experiencing the joys of immobility as I’m snowed into the house of my finace’s parents. We toured the state of Ohio this weekend visiting friends and family that we haven’t seen in too long. Forgetting the need to check weather obsessively in these parts, I had no idea we were in store for a blizzard! Instead of responsibly leaving yesterday, I waited until my entire journey would be treacherous…and decided to stay here!
Â
It’s not necessarily a bad thing. I’m enjoying time with three of my future nieces and nephew. They are beyond adorable and we’ve had a good time watching Disney movies, doing arts and crafts, and braiding hair. It’s funny how little ALL the research I’ve read/done about children can translate to their actual behavior. First, I must have missed the study indicating how one can accomplish anything while watching these wee ones.
“What are you doing?†seems to be the question of the day and “Blogging,†doesn’t seem to register for them. I’ve tried alternatives, “working†or “writing.†I think I’m mistakenly just making it seem really mysterious…perhaps I should try, “something really really boring.†To make matters worse, they know that when I’m finished, we’re going to bake Friendship Bread. “Are you done yet?†is rivaling “What are you doing?†at this point.

I love the child’s perspective of disability. No matter what you’re ability, they want to be just like you in every way. The littlest one (of twins) looked from my wheelchair to my fiance’s and back again with a puzzled gaze. She then looked down at her own legs and said, “I really need to get one of those things!â€
Â
We’re in the basement right now and to get down here, I climb down the stairs one by one. Without saying anything, all three of the kids have started sitting on the stairs to go up and down- even when I’m not with them! Let’s hope they don’t forget the more traditional way but I will say our method is quieter.
I can fend off the troops no longer. Since I began this post, there’s been a glue stick/hair incident and Obie (my dog) has devoured a plastic play spaghetti and meatballs. He’s really struggling with concept of play food.

Stay warm!

I didn’t intend to leave the conclusion of my move as a cliff-hanger, but that seems to be the result. The actual drive was nicer and easier than I expected, but the aftermath has made up for that! Our pods were delayed and it took me some additional time to revive Chloe (my computer). My self-imposed online ban is over now that the last box has been unpacked. Without further delay, I’m here to announce the winner of the KY or Bust Blog Contest.
The winning number of stops was NINE and four people guessed correctly: (1)Vinny, (2 and 3) Left Thumb Blogger, (4) Dixie, and (5) Lisana. Left Thumb Blogger earned two entries since she twittered about the contest. I entered these five entries into the Random Number Generator and the winning number was 2.
Here’s proof!

Congratulations to a close Twitter pal, blogger with a disability, and Disaboom friend of mine-The Left Thumb Blogger!
Thanks to all who took the time to enter the contest and offer me support during the move. I haven’t been blogging during the last couple of weeks, but have had plenty of experiences that I plan to write about soon. I haven’t lived in Kentucky as an adult and it feels like a different planet compared to Miami. As I type, it’s snowing! Tonight I’m braving the weather to catch a movie with some friends but I plan to return to my regularly scheduled blogging ways tomorrow.
Until then…what I have missed?

We’re on the road again but not before we made our 7th stop at a gas station. Gas is much cheaper here compared to Miami. We are driving through SC this morning. Obie is so cold that his teeth are chattering!

We made it to Columbia SC for our overnight stop! More than half way there, I drove the last four and a half hours…mighty well might I add. This is our 6th stop. It’s definitely cooler here-45 degrees but we started seeing leaves changing in Jacksonville. Looking forward to tommorrow..blog ya then!

We’ve just passed Jacksonville and we’re stopping for gas. Finally my turn to drive and Obie is ready for a break. He has been huffing and puffing for the last few miles. Hope dinner is good!
